Chromeo is Pee Thug and Dave 1. Best friends since their adolescence, virtuoso musicians, walking hip hop encyclopedias, and the only successful Arab/Jew partnership since the dawn of human culture.
After spending the six years since the release of their debut album, She’s In Control, and their follow up Fancy Footwork; jet setting, globetrotting, and embarking on an overall sensual conquest of planet Earth, Chromeo headed back to the studio to put together album number three; Business Casual released last year.
Business Casual, features Beyonce’s sister Solange Knowles on “When The Night Falls.” Other song titles include the album opener “Hot Mess,” “The Right Type,” “Night By Night” and “Grow Up”.
The album marks a continuation of the fierce funk jams that Chromeo do best — as well as a new sophisticated, mature direction with more lovers' ballads woven into the mix.
Joining Chromeo on tour will be Mayer Hawthorne. Mayer’s debut album released in 2009, A Strange Arrangement grew out of a childhood steeped in Detroit soul, drawing inspiration from Leroy Hutson, Smokey Robinson, and the legendary songwriting and production trio of Lamont Dozier, Brian Holland, and Eddie Holland Jr.
A Strange Arrangement is an album full of original compositions and one cover (he had to give The New Holidays “Maybe So, Maybe No” a whirl) that underlies a heartfelt nostalgia to the sweet soul of yesteryear. “It’s old soul,” Hawthorne explains, without an ounce of irony. “But it’s new.”
