Filmmaker KEVIN SMITH has announced a national screening and Q&A tour for his new film RED STATE, commencing March 5 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City and travelling across the country through Spring 2011, ahead of its planned October 19, 2011 wide release date through SModcast Pictures, the new distribution company formed by SMITH and Harvey Boys partner Jon Gordon.

The RED STATE Screening and Kevin SMITH Q&A road show will stop in Seattle at the Marion Oliver McCaw Hall at Seattle Center on April 4, 2011, with additional dates to be posted on the official RED STATE websites CoopersDell.com and GodDamnsUSA.com.

Produced and shot outside of the traditional studio system with a $4 Million US budget, RED STATE represents a thematic and stylistic departure for SMITH, who is best known for his series of comedies such as CLERKS, CHASING AMY and DOGMA. Stark and dramatic, RED STATE is a film that takes an unrelenting journey into the dark undercurrent of faith in the heart of America.

RED STATE will be distributed by SModcast Pictures, a venture that aims to reinvent how movies are made and promoted by using the expanding universe of social media instead of what SMITH and GORDON call the "old world media" of television and print. In a statement posted Sunday night on the website CoopersDell.com , the pair explained that they hope to empower independent filmmakers with SModcast Pictures. "Don't hate the studio; BECOME the studio," they said. "Anybody can make a movie; what we aim to prove is anyone can release a movie as well."
